Short stories: Modern couples living the family life

Suddenly, Megan cried hysterically as she managed to blurt out, "Why can't I have a baby?" She sat in front of her bedroom mirror and brushed her shoulder length black hair, as she thought about her desire to have a child. We've been married for five years, and I don't understand why we can't have children. If I had a child to love and care for during the day while Bill works, I wouldn't be as lonely, and we could both spend time with our baby in the evening.

As Megan continued to question the idea of having a baby, her eyes filled with tears, and she started crying. The tears streamed down the sides of Megan's face, so she headed toward the bathroom in order to grab some tissues to wipe her tears away, but as Bill dashed out of the bathroom, he almost knocked her down. He grabbed her and helped her over to the bed.

"Sweetheart, why are you crying?" Bill asked, as he embraced her.

"I'm lonely during the day, and since we've been married for five years, I thought about having a baby," Megan replied.

"Honey, I know you want a baby, and I'd like to have one, too, but remember what the doctor told us last month? He said we couldn't have children," Bill said.

"I remember, but I'd like to have a baby," Megan responded, as she put her hands up to her face and cried. In a few minutes, she said, "Do think the doctor didn't want us to have children because I was black and you were white?"

"I wondered about that, too, so I talked to him privately, and he assured me that he wasn't against us being together and wanting children. He also suggested we think about adoption."

"I'm glad because I still have a strong desire to have a child. How do feel about having children with me since I'm black and you're white?"

"Megan, that doesn't make any difference to me because I married you for who you are and because I love you. You're a beautiful, caring person, and I know you'd make a wonderful mother, so let's discuss adopting a child."

"Oh, Bill, thank you for saying that. I love you, too, and I'd like to talk about adoption," Megan replied.

Megan thought about adopting a child might be a great solution for them as long as an adoption agency would realize they would make good parents even though she was black and Bill was white. She hoped that wouldn't make a difference to the agency, and they would allow them to have a child. "We've never talked about adopting a child, but I like that idea."

"It is a good option for us since we can't have children naturally, so if you want
