Rush Limbaugh does not officially represent the Republican Party. Michael Steele is the Chairman of the Republican National Committee. Rush identifies with Republicans, but is very vocal in saying the conservative movement and the Republican Party are no longer inextricably linked. Although he is a Republican at heart, he is more of a conservative than a Republican.
As the liberal left and many Republicans tout the only possible resurgence of Republicans is to move left and get closer to Democrats, Rush Limbaugh argues strongly against such a move. He says that is exactly what caused the Republicans to lose because they didn't nominate a candidate for president who was conservative.
The interesting thing about Mr. Limbaugh is that he seems to speak the truth directly to millions of Americans. His comments are so truthful in fact, that he often predicts the actions of politicians beforehand. He has a keen sense of politics and understands the motivations behind many of the most prominent decisions made in Washington, D.C. He has the big picture as a Beltway outsider and provides critical analysis and commentary unlike anything on any other programs on either radio or television. The closest to telling the truth as he does comes from Fox News.
I know that both Rush Limbaugh and Fox News are loathed by the left but I put little stock in those opinions. Here's an analogy: a teenager who is fully aware of the rules gets caught breaking a rule. What is the first reaction to getting caught? It's usually becoming angry and lashing out at those who make the rules. I've experienced this countless times with my children. I put this same analogy to politics as Rush Limbaugh and Fox News play it. They reveal the truth, the motivation and the certain results or motivations of political decisions. When the politicians who made those decisions are called out by Rush or Fox, what do they do first? They lash out and become angry at those who caught them.
Rush has been in the news lately quite a few times because of personal attacks against him by either public officials, or by a so-called comedienne at a White House function. If he is such a blowhard and spouts such hatred and racism as so many on the left say, then why do so many on the left say so? If he is so rogue, why not just leave him alone and let him destroy himself with his mouth? The reason, and he actually mentioned this on his website, is they know he speaks the truth. His comments discredit them and embarrass them.
