Faster hard drives mean a faster computer. They also mean more noise and use more power. Not to mention they cost more. But if you go from a 5400 RPM to a 10000 RPM hard drive, every time your computer reads from the disk it will be twice as fast as before. Since computers read the disk all the time, this will be a huge boost in the speed of your computer. Talk to the technician at your local computer store for help with this one to make sure you get the proper type of interface (IDE, SATA, eSATA, etc) and the proper physical size (5.25", 3.5", 2.5", etc) to fit your computer. Once you have it you will need to transfer your data from your old drive to the new one. Then you can install your old drive as a secondary drive for additional, mind you slower, storage. But you need to move your files to the new drive or you won't see the speed benefit.
