Gender, like race, comes up time and again when it comes to high-profile government positions, appointments and elections. The news media jumps on board and sensationalizes it all. Is the country ready for this one, or that one, him or her. His past, her life story, his third-grade teacher. It is all filler for their newscasts. It shouldn't matter.
The right person for the job. That is the motto that should be for every job everywhere. A person could be black, white and red all over but in order to be hired as a dishwasher or a supreme court justice, you have to know the job. Male, or female, should not matter. Qualifications are what matters. Well it is what should matter. In this day and age it doesn't always work that way.
The sexual revolution of the early 1970's was supposed to bring this injustice in life and repair everything. It didn't, anymore than the civil rights movement was supposed to solve the racial injustices.
All I have been hearing on the news stations since this particular woman has been put up by Mr. Obama to possibly fill a position on the supreme court, is that if you don't like her, you are racist against hispanics, or a sexist. If you are for her then you must be a liberal democrat.
Wrong. The politics of stupidity have got to stop. If this woman is qualified, she should go through the process just like everyone has before her. If she is not qualified, then she will be outed by the process. But she should be allowed to go through the process until such time as she is found to be the best qualified applicant or outed for something she is lacking in her skill set.
Gender should not matter in any job. If you meet the requirements, have the qualifications and the desire to actually do the job, you should at least get to begin the process. The facts will be vetted out and a determination of the applicants qualifications will come to light.
But there are some jobs that are just plain gender specific.
Victoria Secret Lingre model, someone who models women's undergarments should obviously be a woman. These garments are designed for a woman's body to be worn by women. Period.
Men's room attendant. Ladies room attendant. Proffesional NFL football player. Again, Gender specific, unless you can do what they do, and go through without the requirements being loosened.
My opinion.
