Internet Improves Lives

Written word in books, library and newspapers, telephone, radio/television and now the internet have opened the world. No longer are alone in the world unless we want to be.

Small World

No longer do we have to give it much thought about communicating with people. People do not leave our world because we can communicate with them no matter how far away they move. Two young men were best of friends through the high school years. Many challenges have come there way over the years such as families, careers, challenges and disappointments. One is in the hometown and another lives in Japan. They communicate over the internet more than just the yearly visit from Japan.

The internet and email have made communication within the cost of most people. Most American citizens have an internet connection in their home. This gives them unlimited means to communicate with anyone with an internet connection within the world. The communication can be instant with IM. Some have online conversations immediately through words.

Online friendships have developed and communicate on current affairs immediately. Sites have immediate chat rooms where people can visit and meet. Later these same people can meet at a mutually enjoyable event. People now twitter immediately about thought that occur as they view items. This has moved cocktail party chatter into the immediate environment. It has made people to examine how to have an online persona that does not directly connect to them. This gives people anonymity, which might review a truer picture of citizen's point of view. Citizens may be willing to disclose truer point of views when they believe anonymity will shield from discloser. They probably act and vote according to these true views.

Situational Appropriate Education

A doctor gives a person a diagnosis and the patient immediately returns home to their computer and look up all the information available. They can connect with the experts on any problem or situation. Internet users email questions and possibly receive answers sooner than a letter traveling through snail mail. The run through and find the side effects of the drugs prescribed by the doctor.

Another situation that the internet aids in care of family members in the hours the doctor's office is closed. Information on the internet can assist family member to receive instructions on how to care for a family member with situations such as care of a diabetic family member with the flu. The perception of distress can come down from emergency to manageable. When the situation improves follow up with the family physician can reinforce the appropriate action.

Support groups for rare conditions can assist that could not if the people had to see each other face to face. They can blog together to share experience and treatment. One of the suggestions for a successful support group is to provide food. Just imagine the food choice you can have while sitting at your own computer.

The computers have opened up the world to old and new friendships. Education is instant and personal. No longer do we communicate face to face or even ear to ear.
