Poetry: Romantic pain

by Bethany Carroll

Created on: May 28, 2009

Years Spent, hours wasted pining for you,

Eyes tied shut as I wander,

Just waiting to miss a step,

You stand by mocking me as you toss things in my way,

Your charm, deceit, betrayal,

You pull me close just to throw me down,

Watching as I writhe on the floor,

I'm being tossed by waves of torment,

The seasickness is getting to my head,

I bend over to vomit, but you won't let me catch my breath,

They're all around me staring,

Laughing as they steal away pieces of you, pieces of me, pieces of our future,

You apologize with empty words,

As you turn your face to wink at them,

I try to open my eyes; they're bruised shut,

I try to scream-my mouth shuts tight,

I try to cry-tears have dried up...like sand,

Though I am blind, God leads me,

He hears me while I am mute,

He numbers each grain of sand that falls from my eye,

He restores my breath, and holds me to His chest,

Calming the storm of my heart with one word,

While He guides my vessel to safety,

He leans to my ear as I am tucked into Him,

And whispers, "Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you."
