Benefits of frequent sex

by Heather Tripp

Sex can be a wonderful experience between a man and a woman. It is more than feels good at the moment however; sex has many benefits to your overall health as well. Here are nine benefits that you may be surprised to learn.

Sex Relieves Stress-
Frequent sex, meaning two or three times a week, has been shown through scientific studies to lower your blood pressure; and it gives you an overall reduction in the amount of stress you feel. The things in life that normally create a small amount of stress for you will no longer seem as stressful. Giving presentations to the head boss at work, dealing with overly large crowds of people, or managing all the kids at your daycare will suddenly seem to be a much easier task.

Sex Burns Calories-
If you want to loose weight, what better way is there than to do just that by having sex? Regular sex is the same as regular exercise, and just 30 minutes of sex will burn around 100 calories. If you have having sex three times a week, for a combined total of an hour and a half, you have burned 300 calories. Even your spouse will enjoy working out with you!

Sex Improves Intimacy-
This fact is a little more well-known. There is nothing more intimate than taking your clothes off and giving yourself fully to your partner and vice versa. But, few people realize it is more in depth than that. While having sex (and orgasms), the Love Hormone is released. This hormone, called Oxytocin, helps us bond with, and trust, another person. Higher oxytocin levels have also been linked with a higher feeling of generosity. If you find yourself suddenly feeling very generous to not only your spouse, but everyone else around you, odds are your levels of oxytocin are very high indeed.

Sex Reduces Pain-
As the hormone oxytocin increases, more and more endorphins are released. Endorphins have been linked to reducing pain levels. So if you have ever felt like your PMS cramps are gone after sex, or the arthritis in your hands no longer hurts like it used to, you can thank the endorphins. Men, when you wife denies you because she has a headache, let her know endorphins can cure that too!

Sex Boost Immunity-
Your body contains a hormone called Immunoglobulin A or more simply put IgA. The function of this hormone is to protect your from colds and infections. Having sex once or twice a week, will significantly increase this hormone, allowing you to remain healthy.

Sex Improve Cardio Health-
A study by scientist has shown that men who have sex two or more times a week, as compared to those who have sex less than once a month, have reduced the risk of fatal heart attacks by half. This is certainly one of the more enjoyable ways to keep your heart healthy.

Sex Strengthens Pelvic Floor Muscles-
Most women have heard of Kegel exercise, especially those who have had children. During sex, these muscles will contract naturally, helping to build up their strength. You can also tighten these muscles at will during sex, since the effect this has is very pleasurable for both persons involved. Whether they contract voluntarily or non-voluntarily, the result is the same. Your pelvic floor muscles are getting a work out, and not only will this strengthen them, it helps reduce the risk of incontinence later in life.

Sex Reduces Prostate Cancer Risk-
The British Journal of Urology International conducted an in-depth study of prostate cancer. Their findings where that men, who had five or more ejaculations a week, while in their twenties, reduced their chance of getting prostate cancer later in life, by a third.
If you have passed your twenties, no need for alarm. The Journal of American Medical Association states that their studies have shown the following: Older gentlemen who have frequent ejaculations (as in 21 or more a month) can also reduce their prostate cancer risk. This study was conducted in comparison with older gentlemen who ejaculated four to seven times a month.

Sex Helps You Sleep-
If you have ever wondered why (or how) your partner can be so active one moment, and seconds later, by snoring away, you can blame the oxytocin hormone. That's right, the very same hormone that helps us bond and trust each other, also aids in helping us get a good night's sleep.
Getting enough of a restful sleep has benefits of it's own, including maintaining a healthy weight and blood pressure level.

Note: This article is intended for those who are married and/or in healthy relationships. When having sex, be sure to take the needed precautions to prevent sexually transmitted disease and pregnancy.
