Just who can fill Circuit City's shoes? While Circuit City's tragic demise is unfortunate, there are a number of companies who can easily take it's place. And they are not unheard of either.
Best Buy -
Perhaps Circuit City's most common competitor is Best Buy (BBY). And from the look of things, Best Buy has already attracted many of Circuit City's once loyal customers. The two stores were basically the same anyway. Both were electronic stores that dealt with computers, cell phones, and other types of technological gadgets.
However, Best Buy seems to have a larger stock of goods than Circuit City. Instead of just dealing in electronics, Best Buy also has other types of goods. You can find refrigerators, stoves; etc at Best Buy. But Circuit City lacked many of these items. Maybe that's one of the reasons why they went bankrupt. Keep in mind that you can also find music, games, home theater systems, and more at Best Buy. And the staff will usually not bother you too much. In other words, you are free to look around. You can even play video games for free if you like.
Walmart -
Who has not heard of Walmart (WMT)? Walmart may not have quite as good of a selection as Best Buy or Circuit City when it comes to technology, but the merchandise at Walmart will often be cheaper than other stores. And their electronics department is fairly large too. You can find reasonably priced flat screen television sets, computers, stereo systems, video games, and more. Keep in mind that the staff at Walmart are unlikely to be as knowledgeable as the individuals who work at Best Buy.
Target -
Target (TGT) is essentially the same as Walmart, but it too could be considered Circuit City's rival. The people who work at Target are also less likely to be as qualified as the staff at Best Buy. However, if you know what you're looking for and don't require any help then Target is a reasonable place to shop for technology. You'll find a modest amount of electronic merchandise such as flat screen television sets, computers, cameras, printers; etc. Target is basically the same as Walmart when it comes to electronics, but it has a different atmosphere to it usually.
Radio Shack -
Radio Shack (RSH) has been around since 1921, and they also offer a large number of electronics as well. Radio Shack focuses their business almost exclusively on electronics and office supplies. There selection is massive (especially on-line). You can find music players, televisions, computers, smart phones, and much more. Radio Shack stores can sometimes feel a lot smaller than places like Best Buy; however, they still have a lot to offer. It can't hurt to take a look now can it? And the staff at Radio Shack are probably about as good as the individuals who work for Best Buy.
Circuit City's demise may have been a blow to the employees and customers of the store, but it is a boon for their competition. In the vast world of capitalism, when one business falls, others will gladly take its place. So Circuit City will be missed by its customers, but not by it's competition.
