It always comes down to which is the better console to buy. I would say that the PS3 would be the way to go. Sure it seems more expensive than the wii, but what kills people for the wii system are the controllers. From my understanding, most wii games will only accept the wii mote. at $40 dollars a controller and a max of three additional people, that's a $120 extra you have to spend. If the game requires the nun chuck, that's an additional $60 that you have to spend. So your $250 bill just went up to $410 and that's not including the game.
The wii is mainly a gaming system. It doesn't do anything additional other than access the nintendo store for games, download demos, news, and connect with other people. The PS3 is a blu-ray reader, media center. You can store video, music, wall paper, and access the sony store for games. You also have the ability to test out demos for games. A rather useful ability for determining whether it's worth your time and money buying a game. Both were able to play older games, but the newer versions of the ps3 have removed this functions, so only the wii can play older games. However, you would have to have the gamecube memory cards to play the older games whereas the ps3 wouldn't need the ps2 memory card. It had the capability to create a special place in the memory for ps2 games.
The odds are that you bought whichever console for the games that are on them. This is where the PS3 pulls ahead because it has more titles and promising future titles too. As of now, the wii is in the dust because all of its good games are out and nintendo hasn't shown signs of anything good coming within the year of 2009. Sure, there's the twilight princess, Metroid 3, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Wii fit and others, but can you play those games repeatedly? for the first three, it would get dull after a while because you know where all the items are located, got all the characters, trophies, etc. You basically wear out the replay value because there's nothing left to find. For games like the Wii fit, it doens't get dull because it's exercise. But you have to shell out additional money because of the equipment needed to play the game. Unlike the wii, the ps3 has more interesting games to play because they involve a lot of action. if you wear out the replay value of one game, there is another one that has just come out or there's something else you can play. it's difficult to get bored with the ps3 titles.
