Poetry: Nothing

by Jennifer Bland

Created on: May 28, 2009

tiny places-

abandoned corners where dust congregates

pinky nails, and ear canals

spaces between crowded teeth

or the recommended quarter inch of open air

at the tip of shoes

and the grooves between the knuckles

of clenched fists

keepsakes

slipped into pockets, close

to warm legs

seconds between blinks

and steady, rhythmic breathing

small pool of saliva underneath

an eager toungue

pushing air, whispers, even

down the tiny hole beneath the front steps

for mice, for dreams, for serpents

space between etches on refraction grating

spewing secrets

carbon and redshifts

receding and metabolizing

behind the ears or eyes

light translation-who can see?

favorite freckle, darker cells

massless, or nearly, particles

that spin, spin, spin

thoughts, like bodies-

ballerinas and bullfights

invisible hair on the back of maps

electrons that dance, dance, dance.
