Recommended first musical instruments for kids

by Nick Todd

Created on: May 28, 2009

Music is based on intervals between notes. Therefore, the most obvious first instrument for kids to learn is the piano. In many high school music classes, it is taught to learn notes by picturing a keyboard/piano. Also, piano can bring great skills like coordination. This is a vital skill not only in music, but also in sports. It brings the art of concentration, focus, beauty, and reward. Obviously, some kids are going to be really into music and some won't be. But if a kid shows interest, buy him/her a keyboard. Increasing interest? A better keyboard. Great interest, ability, and skill? A PIANO! It is like with getting paid as an athlete. At first, you don't get paid, but as your skill level moves on, you become much more able and could even get paid as well as enjoy it! Now, for me, obviously, I had to enjoy it to become skilled. Therefore, it is necessary to enjoy it to get far....

If you don't enjoy talking to people and developing relationships, how will you ever? Maybe that's not your strong point. In any case, you still need to learn a basic understanding. If you enjoy it and persevere enough, hey maybe you can become a successful business owner or be active in some other profession. It's all about enjoyment. Also, piano is used in so many styles of music such as Classical, Rock, Hip Hop, Rap, Jazz, Etc. When you get to that skill level where you really can just sit down and play, it is like magic. It becomes so easy, and flows through you. It becomes a way of expression.

Therefore, the piano would be a great first instrument for a child. Now, obviously any other instrument is good as well, but the way he/she will be able to play other instruments as well is the piano. The piano is the basis of all. If you think of great composers such as Bach, John Lennon, and even Eminem, you will understand more if you listen closely how each of these styles of music is using the piano in a different way. Listen closely, and you hear the beauty unfold. You really can't get this freedom from a guitar or a bass guitar. Also, it is told that if you are good at the piano, you are good at math. It brings the skill set you need to understand the intervals between notes and or the intervals between numbers. You need to remember to play on, rock on, enjoy life. Give kids the opportunity to enjoy life and to be able to go and jam on a piano and very quickly pick up any instrument because of it. It really will be a rewarding experience for you.....THANK YOU FOR READING!
