"Cal.Prop 8 vs. ICor.6:9"
Some of the most tumultuous battles fought in this life are those charged with "high voltage" emotions. However, many of these hotly contested issues could be better understood, perhaps better served, if defused by use of the first laws we were given, God's commandments! California's Proposition 8 is a perfect example to use as study.
So many people claim to have heard enough about same sex marriage, yet there still seems to be a lot of money, fight, and news coverage on the matter. Several states have "caved" to the social and political pressures of the gay right activists and legalized homosexual unions. To date, California has not...yet. GOOD FOR THEM!
At some point, we who claim to be servants of God must make a stand against such things as gay marriage, regardless of social, political, or any other earthly cost! There is certainly something gone wrong in a world which consoles the gays as those who are "persecuted" and "mistreated" under the law!
Especially when, in turn, the homosexual community can spew vulgar rants and vengeful threats at the moral traditionalists, calling us members of "hate groups," who are draging the "old, outdated" sexual principles of yesterday into the "new and enlightened" world of the 21st century!
Those who stand for God must stand against Ungodly things! It's not a matter of hate, nor tolerance, nor some new world illumination. It is a matter of acceptable versus unacceptable human behavior...choosing to stand with God and follow His teachings or not. Every person has free will to choose either path, but not both! With the Lord, something is either good or evil. Any one thing cannot be both...
"Judge not, lest ye be judged..." (Matthew 7:1-2). A scripture which is used often by one against another when attempting to point out hypocrisy. Some will ask "How can you call yourself a Christian when you break the very law Jesus has given to YOU?" It certainly can seem that way to some accused by it. However, there is a huge difference between "judging" and "teaching," which is why this verse is one of the most misused passages in the bible!
God IS the only judge, period! If a Christian is harshly condeming any person, and offers no further instruction of God to help promote Godliness, he IS wrong! That person is judging with no right to do so, and God will deal with that in His good time.
However, if a person of faith is attempting to show another, through scripture, what is pleasing to our Lord and what is not, that person isn't "judging," they are only teaching. It is the duty of Christians to help spread the word of God! If someone doesn't like what they hear, that isn't the fault of the Godly soul. Further, if a person chooses not to listen, that is their right...again, every person is born with God-given free will.
The conclusion is this: By scriptural law, homosexuality is a sin, just as lying, stealing, or any other lawlessness is. A true Christian will pray for the wayward soul, that they may turn toward the Lord and Master, and hope to enjoy the blessings of God through Christ Jesus. But Godly people have to stand firm in conviction, unafraid to speak out for what WE believe in! I ask this question: Where is the hatred in wanting and asking for God's love and kindness for another?
