How cell phones create new issues of public rudeness

Cell phones are a part of our culture. These small devices are everywhere and everyone seems to have one. Before the introduction of cell phones, a telephone conversation used to be private matter. With the use of the cell phone that private conversation is now in the open and creates a new form of public rudeness and lack of respect for other people's privacy.

Cell Phone Dangers

Cell phones can be dangerous to the user and to other people. The cell phone user doesn't seem aware what is going on around them and will cross into the path of a car or walk across the street without looking. Parking lots are especially dangerous as the cell phone user doesn't watch for cars backing up or ones moving quickly in and out of parking stalls. Cell phone users who drive have a lack of respect for other drivers and are on the phone when operating a moving vehicle increasing the chances of a serious accident. A cell phone user should pull over when the need to answer a call or make one arises. The road creates enough distractions without someone talking on the phone and unaware of what is going on around them. Accidents can happen in a fraction of a second and a person with a cell phone at their ear has less time to react to a dangerous situation.

Talking In Public Places

Cell phone users are always talking on their phone in public areas which is rude around other people. Often people will talk loudly on their phone distracting those around them. At stores and malls the phone user will stop in the middle of the aisle and block other people while talking on the phone. Its seems that the phone call is more important than the respect for others around them. The phone user won't turn the phone off or leave it in the car it has to go with them everywhere. At restaurants cell phone users talk on the phone while waiting for a meal distracting other patrons. They never think about the other people who may want some privacy and not have to listen to someone's conversation.

At the Movies or Shows

One area of cell phone use which is perhaps the most rude is at the movies. Often during a movie you will see the familiar lights of someone's cell phone shining in the theatre and often hear conversations going on. At shows where you want it to be quiet so you can hear what is going on, you often see cell phones flashing everywhere and conversations taking away from the experience of the show.

Noise

Cell phones create noise with annoying ring tones that go off all around you. These ring tones play sounds that may disturb people around the cell phone user. The cell phone will go off in a library for example, disturbing the library users. The phone will ring at gatherings when someone is speaking. This cell phone noise is distracting to others, loud, and annoying.

Conclusion

Cell phones are great pieces of technology but they should be used with care and respect for other people. A cell phone should be turned off when going into a store or at public gatherings. People should keep their conversations private so others cannot hear what is being said. Before using your cell phone think about how your call may impact those around you and learn to be respectful around other people. This will go a long away in reducing public rudeness created by cell phones.
