Like it or not, fast food restaurants like McDonald's Burger King, Wendy's and Taco Bell are probably here to stay. Let's face it; in today's society people want quick and easy meals, and where else can you get them for a reasonable price?
While I think that these places are here to stay, I also think that they have to make some changes. Some people, myself included try to watch what we eat, and while we all like a burger once in a while, it's nice to have a choice. McDonald's has salads, the grilled chicken and the crispy chicken salads both allowable on the Weight Watchers point system for example. If you get one of those, or a side salad with light balsamic vinegrette dressing , then you can eat both quickly and eat healthy. McDonald's also has grilled chicken wraps which are another choice, as is the Grilled Chicken breast sandwich. Of course you need to leave off the mayonnaise.
Burger King is a little more difficult when it comes to healthy choices. If your local Burger King offers chili, or a veggie burger those are good options, along with salad. The whopper junior is also decent but remember, to lose the cheese. Even on the veggie burger, skip the mayonnaise or you are eating the equivalent of eating a whopper?
Wendy's has their ever faithful chili, a good thing to eat when you want to make a healthier choice. Surprisingly, the baked potato with chives and sour cream is another good choice since the sour cream is lowfat. Again, there are salads, but you have to be careful and choose a lowfat dressing.
Taco Bell's bean burritos and chicken burritos are a good choice here. Some Taco Bell's offer a Fresco menu where you also get more healthy choice, but this food line doesn't appear to be everywhere. As far as the traditional taco goes, stick with the chicken taco, if available.
Fast food restaurants have undergone some changes to improve their menus and make them healthier. Because of this, a greater food selection, less expensive choices( most have dollar menus or something close to it) and the widespread fast food restaurants available, fast food restaurants are here to stay. There is something for everyone, and you can always find one. They certainly are plentiful. If these fast food restaurants aren't your cup of tea, you can always try Subway or Quiznos. They offer freshly made fast food and different specials. Subway, offers $5 subs and Quiznos has countered with their own new $4 torpedos. At both these restaurants there are a lot of choices, and at Subway in particular you can get a healthy sub if you take the time to choose carefully.
