Most of us try and eat healthily, but sometimes what we think is heathy is not.
Such as it is it seems a strange paradox that more than ever before people are informed about healthy eating, but at the same time society is facing obesity problems in epidemic proportions never before seen. Food packaging legislation has greatly improved consumer knowledge of what exactly goes into each food and the government is spending more and more time trying to encourage healthier life choices.
Most obesity issues therefore have to be put down to an individual lack of motivation concerning diet and exercise, but some of this could be put down to assumption. Due to the increasing consumer information and heightened awareness everyone knows the "bad" foods, foods which are high in fat, salts and sugars, but there are a few surprises which slip under the healthy eating radar on occasion. Here are ten foods which can sometimes catch people out in the quest for a healthier diet.
Eggs
Eggs aren't bad in the grand scheme of things representing around one and a half points on the Weight Watchers diet (all of which comes from the yolk) but bash them together in an omelette and add oil and it doesn't become very healthy. Add any cheese or sauce to that and it becomes very high in saturated fats. The humble boiled egg is still the healthiest way to eat an egg.
Milk
A great deal of calories can be saved just by switching from full-fat to semi-skimmed milk (or even fully skimmed). Milk is a healthy part of any diet but it makes sense to be wise and it is easy to change from one type to the other without sacrificing the health benefits which come from milk.
Cream Based Soups
Soups are usually a good alternative to sandwiches for a midday snack but cream based soups such as the Cream of Broccoli can contain a lot of calories. People often assume that just because it is a soup it will automatically be a healthy choice over a sandwich but this is not always the case.
Bananas
Just because a banana is a fruit doesn't mean to day that contains no calorific value. A banana is a healthy option to take over most things but it still contains around a hundred calories; eat two or three over the course of a day and that adds up. Instead you can eat two or three apples for the same amount of calories for one banana. Three or four bananas a day would soon add up.
Salads
Salads, or more specifically salad dressings, are well known to contain a lot of unwanted and unnecessary calories. There
