The best ways to hide your valuables while traveling

Travelling with valuables can cause worries on whether you will become a victim of theft. It may become your very worst fear if the place you are travelling is known for thefts. So, how can your valuables be protected while travelling? Here's how:

Safety begins in packing: When you plan for a local or overseas trip, always carry only necessary items. For additional safety, take photocopies of all your documents like passport, visa, driver's license, credit card and other identity documents. Take one copy and carry them in your suitcase and leave the other at home. Withdraw only small amount of cash from ATM's and use debit cards for payments.



Safe deposit box: If you are travelling to a new city, it is always best to get a safe deposit box. You might be able to find them in the hotel you are staying or in rare tourist hot spots. While this option may be temporary, it is best to travel with the peace of mind when you can. It is one good option as you need not have to worry often and check your valuable while travelling.

Use your clothing: It may be wise to hide your valuables in secret pocket of your clothing. You can stitch an inner pocket of your shirt or use your pant pockets. No one would dig into your secret pocket, but you must be careful while removing your clothing. Avoid the back pocket your pants to hide your valuables as pick pockets tend to target them.

Money belts: Using a money belt is a good way to store the valuables especially in crowded places. It is not only safe to carry money, but traveler's cheques and other important documents. Always keep the money belts facing you.

Handbags: Use handbags to store necessary valuables and it must be carried along with you. Being careless in handling the handbags can cause the loss of your valuables. It is also a good idea to use a strap to attach the handbag to your belts or clothing. Store valuables on bags with zips and if possible use a small number lock.

Use double pockets: Many may be new to idea to double pockets. A double pocket is a pocket within a pocket. Normal ready made clothing may not have one but it is better to attach one by sewing them. Having a zip makes it a better one.

Learn more about the place you are travelling to and take extra precautions if you are travelling to a place known for frequent thefts. Refrain from packing and carrying valuables that you do not need. Carry all other valuables with you in safety pockets!
