For the First Time
So used to people taking what I could not give,
You took nothing but what I gave to you.
Trust is a word I could not say,
I felt safe with my thoughts and dreams tucked away.
What they did not know, they could not break,
But it caused my relationships to be shallow and fake.
For deep inside I wanted to share,
My hopes, my fears, my every prayer.
I used to feel safe, letting no one in,
Then you came along, and where do I begin?
You changed my mind about everything,
You let me be real, and were always comforting.
The part of me I used to hide,
Could not be hidden from you, though I tried.
The deepest part, buried for all those years,
Has been raised to the surface, despite my many fears.
It's indescribable, incomprehensible, but true,
I never felt love until I met you.

Where ever I roam upon this earth
I carry your love in all that I do
And as each day ends
