The concept that ideas require application is meaningless. Ideas are self-standing and require nothing to exist. B.F. Skinner and operant conditiontheory in behaviorism might have postulated that ideas are nothing more than indications of reaction or the need of reaction to some stimulus; essentially behaviorism annihilates the concept that an individual may reason about anything besides some proximal physical stimulus. In that criteria appplications stimulate ideas in to being.
For several reasons ideas are independent and separate from actions. It is the independence of free thought that allows the choice of a selective, discriminating application of an idea for appropriate actualization or application when the circumstance is believed to be right. If there were any necessary correlation between having an idea and applying it that human judgement would not exist and thought would be an element in the chain of involuntary action.
Thoughts of any sort are ideas-one might develop some ideas intentionally as precursors to action, yet many ideas are without need for application. Ideas may occur in a sequence and so the application could be considered to be in mind, yet even so other ideas may be simply aesthetic notions such as 'its a beautiful day'.
A priori ideas as those without any empirical component necessary for meaning. Does advanced math require application? What is the meaning of 'application then? Certain kinds of ideas may be useful in a material application, but a material formation empirically constructed from the inspiration of an idea is an essentially different relationship and event than thought itself.
One cannot reasonably postulate that any idea has a necessary requirement for anything. It is a remarkable philosophical premise that there is a category of thought such that if one has one then one necessarily is required to apply it. Unless there is some divine command given unto an individual directly experienced in mind, there is no other thought that has an implicit requirement to be applied.
If one wants a cracker barrel or less technical approach such as 'yes that's a good idea boy, but you've got to apply it'. then you might have something there in 'Truth; Ideas Require Application.
Some examples might be such as the recruit scrubbing the floor is slacking. The Sergeant wanders over and says 'drop' give me ten. The recruit applies it (the Sergeant's idea). What if the idea wasn't originally the Sergent's, but was that of a designer of training-how far must those ideas be applied.
Actually there are better examples than that. I shall try one more...
The young scholar invents a way to balance the federal budget and eliminate the federal deficit next week. He falls asleep and forgets the idea; if it had been applied then we would be debt free.
There is a substantial difference between cracker barrel or common philosophy-maybe better known as water cooler philosophy, and more disciplined philosophical approach constructed upon contemplation, experience and learning from other philosophers. Some ideas should never be applied-such as crashing down the World Trade Towers, blowing up civilians in Iraq and so forth. No ideas require application.
