Raleigh is a city not just for fun and shopping but it also encourages a lot of voluntary interactive work with the community; for the community. There are many places where one could opt to be a volunteer, based on one's interest. Vacant volunteer positions are available for any and every field. Some of the main highlighted volunteer programs of the "City of Raleigh" are given below.
#1. Adopt-A-Park Volunteer: Parks & Recreation Department,
Volunteers assist community agencies and city departments receiving fundraising and donations towards upkeep of parks and park events.
# 2. Adopt-A-Stream Volunteer: Public Works Department
Volunteers assist the PWD twice a year in identifying faulty water pipes, water sources, pollution and aid in cleaning streams and creeks.
#3. Aquatic Coaches Volunteer: Parks & Recreation Department
Volunteers assist the Coach in organizing the training programs by supervising and directing participants (Intra City Swim Team)
#4. Foster Grandparent Program Volunteer: Community Services Department
Volunteers provide loving care to certified Children's Day Care Centers and Public Schools. Volunteers have to be over 60 and in good mental and physical health.
#5. Meal Delivery Driver: Meals on Wheels
Volunteer represent Meals On Wheels of the County and deliver fresh, hot meals to home bound senior citizens.
# 6. Parks Volunteer: Parks & Recreation Department
Volunteers help to clean and maintain City Parks. A minimum of three hours per session
#7. Mordecai Historic Park Volunteer: Parks & Recreation Department
Volunteers act as tour guides taking visitors on a one hour tour of the Mordecai Building and Mordecai Grove at Oakwood.
#8. Retired & Senior Volunteer: Community Services Department
Volunteers have to be above 55 years of age, in good mental and physical health and must assist the City community in various departments such as the Poilce department, schools, community activities, fundraising, even management, hospitals and non-profit organizations.
#9. Weekend Daycare Supervisor: Wake Interfaith Hospitality Network Inc.
Volunteers assist in the Daycare Family support programs. Some of the duties include attending the phone, interacting with the community / families and enforce Daycare guidelines. This is a community based program and very interactive with families.
#10. Volunteer Projects For Groups: Parks & Recreation Department
Volunteer Projects for families, Youth groups, Corporations and Community Groups to clean the Park, Invasive plant removal, tree Plantings and Trail Maintenance.
Some other programs that are also on volunteer basis are at Cameron Village as Shopping Guide / Tour Guide, Specialized Recreation Guide Volunteer, Youth Sports Coach, Safe Haven For Cats (Animal Shelter), Museum Tour Guide or Museum Grounds Volunteer and the Rex Hospital Volunteer Program for medical or non medical fields.
