Nappy Cake (OR Diaper Cake in the USA).

I always try to come up with personal gifts for all my family and friends.
So when my cousin told me she was pregnant, I began researching online what to buy for her.
I am in the UK, and Nappy cakes are not common over here. So when I found them during my research, I knew it was the present for her!
I decided to make a 3 tier cake, like a wedding cake.

this is how I did it:

The things you will need to make the nappy cake:
60 size 2 Nappies (Diapers). Newborn size.
2 baby bottles (8oz ones).
Elastic Bands- Including 6 Very Large ones.
Around 2.5 Metres of Ribbon- 5-8cm Thick
3 Nappy Pins to secure the ribbon.
A Large round tray to stand it on (Around 35cm Diameter-minimum).
Items for the baby.

I decided to fill my nappy cake with the essentials any new baby needs.
So I bought:
Baby Oil (Johnsons)
Baby Bath (Johnsons)
Baby Lotion (Johnsons)
Talc (Johnsons)
Cotton Buds
Sudocrem
Nappy sacks
newborn booties (and 1 nappy pin to secure them to the cake).
2 small teddies (And 2 nappy pins to secure them to the cake).
And as a treat for mum, a small bottle of white wine.
(For after the baby comes-of course)!

My cousin did not find out the sex of her baby, so I made sure the toys, booties and ribbon were neutral colours.
(I decided on red ribbon as one of the toys had a red jumper on).

Here is a step by step guide to how to make the cake:

1). Roll each nappy up, from the top edge- (With the stickers on) to the bottom edge.
Keep the roll tight and the sides of the nappy folded in as you roll.

2). Secure each nappy with an elastic band.

3). Take one of the baby bottles and fill it with the cotton buds.
(I put the teat back on upside down and put the bottle lid inside one of the booties).

4). Place this bottle in the centre of your tray.

5). arrange a circle of nappies around the bottle, stood up.
(Ensure no bottle is visable through the nappies).
This step took me 6 nappies.

6). Secure these nappies with an elastic band around them.

7). Arrange a second circle of nappies around the first circle.
(This took around 12 nappies)
Secure this circle with another elastic band.
You should then have 2 circles of nappies around the bottom of the baby bottle.
6 on the inner ring and around 12 on the outer ring.

8). Create a 3rd ring of nappies around the 2nd ring.
(This took around 18 nappies)
Secure this circle with another elastic band.
You should then have 3 circles of nappies around the bottom of the baby bottle.
