How stress can affect testing results

Does stress effect how people test? Of course it does, and there are many ways as to how stress can effect testing. When we are stressed, the ways that we interact with our environment are fundamentally changed. Taking a test while stressed is certainly a lot harder than taking a test when you are not stressed, as anything in life is a lot easier to accomplish when we are not stressing out. How does stress effect our ability to take a test?

When we are stressed, we tend to tense up and forget a lot of the things that we study. If you are taking an essay test, and you are so worried about fulfilling the word count that it becomes all you focus on, will you remember the actual material? It can be difficult to remember what we are actually supposed to be talking about if there are things that we are stressing out about when it comes to the test. The format of a test can be stressful, and can effect our recall of knowledge.

Some people can become very anxious when they are taking a test. They might start sweating, and memory loss can occur. I have heard stories of people who are so stressed out by a test that they will throw up, or just shut down. It can be very hard to take a test if you are stressed, and for some the stress can be so much that they cannot take the test, or do so effectively.

Why do some people get so stressed when they take tests? Some people are afraid of failing, and others are afraid of not being perfect. Some people just don't study, or just aren't ready for the test. Some tests just seem very important, like the SAT test, or the ACT. Both are important tests to determine if you can get into colleges, and are relied upon heavily by some schools. The higher the score, the more chance you have to get into school. If you get a low score, it can be hard to get into some colleges.

Tests can be stressful because of the weight that they carry even if it isn't the SAT. If you get a bad grade, your overall score in a class could be lowered. Your parents might get upset with you, or you might get mad at yourself. Tests can be stressful because sometimes it can be hard to remember the material when it isn't in front of you. I remember taking math courses in high school, and the equations would leave my mind the second the notebooks had to be put away.

Test taking can be very stressful on people, and for good reason. There can be a lot riding on tests, and some people just cannot take the pressure. When you start to stress, you start losing the mental ability to remember information. Not only that, but your body starts reacting to the stress, instead of focusing on the material that you need to concentrate on for the test.

The key to test taking is to just relax. Your whole life won't be determined by one test, so just calm down. It will all be OK in the end, and if you can just keep that in mind, you should be able to control your stress during tests.
