that will further the mission and the purpose of the site. This requires that the writers have a professional attitude about writing and content presented for submission to the Helium site. Helium writers strive to share their knowledge with others.

Blogs are not professional. At least most are not. In fact, they are a personal writing outlet. The journal style gives a more personal feel to the entries.

Information versus Opinion

Helium articles communicate valuable information and base that information on a variety of facts. Articles are more fact based for giving knowledge. The Helium motto is knowledge rules.

Blogs are less formal and normally express opinions. Facts are not scrutinized in the same manner as those of articles. Blogs are expressions of individuals just like journal entries.

Word Count versus No Limits

Helium has a specific word count and length that is required for articles. Every article must have a minimum of 400 words and a maximum of 1600 words. The length requirement is a strong distinction for Helium.

Blogs rarely have a word count expectation because they are personal entries. This gives the individual freedom of expression and openness to write as much or as little as they personally feel.

Understanding the similarities of writing for Helium and web logs help writers appreciate the ease of style and simplicity of communication. Understanding the distinct differences between the two also allows writers to be more effective in their ability to communicate, writing effectively, and produce the correct kind of content for both avenues.
