Finding your purpose in life

Finding one's purpose in life is like finding a buried treasure. So many of us in this dog eat dog world seem to go from day to day with little or no purpose in life. Why am I here? What is the reason for my life? What is life all about?

Each of these are very heavy questions. Each of them begs an answer and each of them vie for attention in our daily lives. For years my favorite author has been Gordon MacDonald. In one of his books I recall reading about how in his journal he set out to write a Mission Statement for his life. He shared his struggles and yet he persisted and came up with a powerful statement by which he has directed his life ever since.

I do not think that I am as gifted as he is. He is a master at crafting the English language into pictures and concepts that penetrate to the very depths of the hearts of his readers. . Many times his books such as Christ Followers in a Real World, or Restoring Your Spiritual Passion, and Ordering Your Private World, among others have touched me deeply and shaped my life and brought me into a closer sojourn with Jesus Christ. Gordon MacDonald has challenged me to seek for purpose in my life. I have written out a three word mission statement for my life. That mission statement is Living! Loving! Leading!

Living1 Loving! Leading! I have inscribed them on the front fly leaf of my favorite Bible Everyday when I open up the Holy Word of God I see the inscription and I am reminded of my mission in life and I seek the Lord's help in fulfilling that mission.

1. Living: I am to live my life everyday for the glory of God. I, through faith in Jesus Christ have life. Jesus declared in John 10:10 I have come that they may have life, and they will have it with abundance. I praise God I am alive in Him. I testify with the Apostle Paul For me to live is Christ and to die is gain. (Philippians 1:21). I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I that lives, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. . . (Galatians 2:20) I have spiritual life through Jesus Christ and my purpose everyday is to live so as to bring honor to Him. . I live because He lives in me. I want my life to show forth His praise. Isaiah 43:21 says This people have I formed for myself that they might show forth My Praise. I want that each day my life will hallow the name of Jesus. I pray that others will see Jesus in me. As a teen my favorite
