The Perfect Garden

Violet always looked forward to the spring, all the different colors and fragrances to take in. However, the thing she looked forward to the most was planting her garden. Each year she took great care to pick only the best plants and seeds. She would always drive down to Buddy's Greenhouse to pick up each year's new seed. This year she would be unable to go due to the unfortunate heart attack of Buddy Stone. The doctors had given him a bottle of little white pills and told him, "Stick one under your tongue if your heart begins to hurt. Just take it easy and don't do anything to over excite yourself."

This made Violet upset because there were no other greenhouses in Rose County and that meant that she would have to buy all of her seed from the department store. She detested the department store for their high prices and low quality goods. After all how would it look to everyone her shopping there anyway? Violet shuddered at the thought of having been seen at the Super Save. She had a reputation for being the richest widow in town. The women at the Auxiliary gossiped about how she had married into the money and some of the schoolyard rumors were that she killed her husband and buried him in her rose bushes, which was a lie. The truth was that Violet did marry her husband for his money and practically counted down the days until he kicked the bucket. She was disgusted by him, a fat, bald pig of a man who did nothing but sit around the house, smoke those dreadful cigars, and EAT!" That was what she always told the other rich widows that played bridge with her.

Despite what Violet said about her late husband, Mr. Right, was
