For years amazing TV characters have come into our homes. It is because of them and their and their compelling back stories that keep an audience invested in a show and care enough to come back week after week. Most of these characters are filled with flaws allowing them to grow and the audience to be enthralled by all they do. Below are ten examples of characters that are/were complex, intriguing and represent some of the best TV has to offer.
Smash Williams Friday Night Lights
While every character on the critically acclaimed NBC series could earn a spot on the list, Smash Williams takes the spot, mostly due to the dynamics of his character. Williams began the series as a stereotypical, cocky, arrogant football player, but thanks to strong storylines and strong acting, emerged a sympathetic character. When he saw his dreams halted by a knee injury, he spent the episode rallying up his team for a game he could not participate in, and then sat in an empty locker room, while the rest of the team was greeted by cheers from the crowd. His evolution makes Smash who he is a character the audience wants to cheer for.
Dexter Morgan Dexter
Making TV viewers fall in love with a serial killer seems impossible, but Dexter Morgan did just that. A serial killer with morals (he only kills the bad guys), Dexter has become one of the most intriguing characters on TV. The most interesting aspect of Dexter is how he manages to mix his family life with his secret life maintaining a job, girlfriend and a relationship with his sister. In one episode he picks up milk for his girlfriend from the refrigerator of the man he just killed. Watching Dexter balance two worlds makes for good television, and makes him surprisingly relatable.
Carrie Bradshaw Sex and the City
Carrie Bradshaw was the kind of single girl every woman wanted to be and not just because of her wardrobe. She was sexy, funny, smart, and most of all an amazing friend. We watched as Carrie had fleeting boy toys and a few of the most thought-out, realistic relationships to ever be portrayed on TV. Watching her go through ups and downs, witnessing her happiness and heartbreak the audience did come to view Carrie as a friend, and were able to see pieces of themselves in her.
Jim Halpert The Office
In the craziness that infiltrates The Office, one salesman, Jim, is the sole sense of reality in an otherwise overly silly world. He is the voice of sanity in the crazy world, often
