Natural allergy remedies
Now that spring is in full bloom and we approach the Memorial Day holiday, the eye can see the vivid and natural colors of the flowers and smell the earth, the rain, and also the pollen and other natural earthen emanations that are the cause of allergies. A common natural defense is to run to our neighborhood drug store or pharmacy and get a prescription filled, or purchase an over the counter remedy. Many of us have become wary and tired of the side effects of those over the counter remedies. There are proven natural remedies to help with allergies.
Many questions have been asked about the use of natural remedies, but one prevalent question is why someone would want to use a natural remedy as opposed to prescription or over the counter. Over the counter remedies have physical side effects that are associated with the use of antihistamines and decongestants. Both of these agents dry out the body, dehydrate and make the user sleepy, inattentive and unalert. This befuddled state is not very pleasant although these agents do the job. Natural remedies, and many "home remedies" are just as effective, if not better than prescriptions and don't have the side effects medications can cause. Many natural remedies, home remedies and herbs, when used and prepared properly help to strengthen the immune system, and have anti-inflammatory agents that can help to sooth irritated mucus membranes. Herbal remedies have agents with the ability to loosen mucus and help relieve congestion. Below are some herbal and natural remedies.
Apple Cider vinegar contains the healing properties that are very good for easing the symptoms of sinus infections and also to treat allergies from exposure to pets, food and some environmental agents. It is rich in vitamins A, B1, B2, B6 and E and also contains calcium, magnesium and potassium. It soothes sore throats, and shortens the duration of colds if used as a chest compress.
Alfalfa has been known to ease a runny nose, sneezing and itching associated with hay fever (allergic rhinitis). It also is known to nourish the nervous system and calm the immune system, which allows irritated mucus membranes to return to their normal state.
Eucalyptus effectively calms coughs and relieves nasal congestion and is often found in cough syrup, cold remedies, chest rubs, various oils and liniment to relieve pain. It has expectorant properties and is both an antiseptic and a stimulant. Its strong vapor loosens mucus
