In this busy, high stress life healthy eating habits tend to be put on the back burner. Experts agree that healthy eating habits are the key ingredient to a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Here are some tips to make healthy eating easy while you're on the go.
Plan Your Meals Ahead - Healthy eating is easier if you are not grabbing the first thing you see. When we are hungry we often make poor choices in nutrition. We tend to grab the easiest meal first, and we don't consider the consequences. By planning your meals ahead, you are setting a goal to eat healthy. Write out your meals for the week and buy only what you will need. These choices do not have to be fancy, time-consuming meals, but rather simple, and healthy choices. A slow cooker can be a valuable tool for a busy lifestyle. Simply gather all your ingredients and throw it in before work, when you get home, dinner is served. There are many
healthy recipes available online you can try.
Eat Regularly - Skipping meals is the leading cause of poor eating habits. Each meal is an important part of your day. Breakfast is often the easiest meal to skip, yet it is one of the most important meals of day. Breakfast helps to set your blood sugar at a maintainable level, allowing your body to provide you with the energy you need. You do not necessarily have to eat three meals a day; some people choose to eat several small meals instead. If you find that you are constantly hungry between meals, vary the way you are eating. Research has shown a link between weight loss and consistent eating.
Eat a Variety of Foods - Check your food guide to see the required amounts of each food group and aim to achieve the set quantity. In order to feel satisfied you need to have variety in your eating habits. Choose different types of foods, and try different recipes to add excitement to you daily life. Be sure you include enough nutrient rich foods in each meal, and don't deprive yourself of the things you love.
Don't Deprive Yourself - If you are a fan of sweets or snacks, do not deprive yourself of these pleasures. Ideally these foods should be eaten in moderation. Denying yourself of your favorite foods will lead to dissatisfaction, and eventually cause you to make unhealthy impulse choices. Allow yourself to enjoy these treats, but on a more balanced scale. Eating healthy is as much about portion control as choices. The number one cause of failed dieting is deprivation of the foods we love most. Healthy eating
