Best Options for Heartburn Relief:

I hate heartburn. It's an awful feeling. Burning pain in the esophagus. Here are some cures I have that do not need a lot of medicines. I would say that if you really want an over the counter remedy feel free but the things I am going to share are not typical over the counter remedies...but they do work. If you have trouble with heartburn and over the counter options haven't worked, here are some best options for food solutions to heartburn.

I once went to a "greasy spoon" diner for a breakfast on my way to work. I got scrambled eggs and toast with orange juice and soon developed heartburn that lasted well into the day. I'd have to say that a combination of the grease and the excess acid contributed to the problem. The next time I went to the same restaurant I crazily ordered the same meal with one difference. A side of ground horse radish - straight horse radish. I put it sparingly on my eggs because I liked the taste of it. And you know what? After breakfast...NO HEARTBURN! It dawned on me that the only change was the horseradish and WOW!

So the next time I went I did it again...but over did the horseradish! The burning fumes went up my nose and down my throat and I gagged and choked. But I didn't have heartburn then either. Just severe tearing and gagging! I don't recommend that. Horseradish is very strong and should be taken in moderation. Small thinly spread on greasy kind of foods seems to counteract the heartburn, maybe by cutting the grease with the natural solvents that are in the horse radish. It always seems to work for me. I don't know if this is a result of how the chemicals react to my unique body chemistry or if it is a universal but give it a try...horseradish is food and unless there is some allergy to it all your body will do is digest it.

Anyway another great heartburn cure is potato. Some spicy foods that commonly give heartburn for me are tomato sauce in spaghetti. Simple use of potato in preparing the sauce can eliminate the excess acid in the sauce. Potatoes act as a sponge absorbing acid from the sauce making it milder. If you aren't having spaghetti sauce but still have heartburn...I recommend juicing a potato and drinking the juice! It has an earthy taste but in just a little while you will get relief from acid reflux, and stomach upset caused by too much acid. If you want best results for the potato cure, you may need to purchase a juicer or do it in a blender.
