Tasty summer hamburger meals
Having a healthy meal in the summer that everyone can love can be so hard. Especially when the media bombards the regular person with all kinds of information about what is healthy and what is not.
Healthy meals are easy to create with just basic ingredients; there is no reason not to have lean ground beef, but if you choose to be extra creative and extra healthy you can make substitutions from the type of meat used like ground turkey, to whole wheat bread or buns or even the type of pasta to whole wheat. But in the end all it takes is a little time and ingenuity from changing your basic burger into a spicy one with a bit of a Mexican flair and to be honest any salad is a good salad with any meal. And really it all depends on who you are serving in my experience the pasta salad is a better sale if you have a crew of kids because as we know vegetables are the least liked by kids. So any creative measures you can think of to change up your basic summer meal are great. Here are some of mine.
Ingredients
- 1lb lean ground beef
- cup of crushed saltine crackers
- cup of crushed taco chips
- 1 egg
- teaspoon salt
- teaspoon of pepper
- teaspoon of parsley
- teaspoon of Cajun spice
- Whole wheat buns
Method
In a large ceramic mixing bowl, mix all listed ingredients together; and make sure all ingredients are mixed well. Take one handful of meat mixture and roll to a nice round ball and flatten into a nice even Patti.
On a nice hot grill barbeque, and make sure burgers are well cooked in the middle no pink meat is advised.
Now serve burgers on fresh whole wheat buns with fresh leaf lettuce, red ripe sliced tomatoes, and the best condiments around. The traditional ketchup and fresh relish, homemade is best, tiny bit of mayo and a nice slice of medium cheddar cheese. And if you wish to change it up a bit add a teaspoon of medium or hot salsa to give it that Mexican flair.
There are just so many creative ways to change up your regular hamburger, one of the most lean and unheard of but very tasty types of meat is bison meat. I would like to think that this type of burger is found in mostly Western Canadian Provinces. If you have never tried this time of meat it is so lean and healthy and it just completely changes everything you thought you knew about your basic burger. I would recommend giving it a try, maybe this summer.
