So this week's mail collection included two wedding shower invites, 2 wedding invitations, 1 baby shower invite and one that took me completely off guard. I got a Le Divorce Party invite. It was a simple white invitation with a quote on the front by comedian Robin Williams, 'Ah yes, divorce...from the Latin word meaning to rip out a man's genitals through his wallet.'
That's right...a divorce party. I heard about these but I thought they were things of urban legend...but nope they really do exist. I mean if you're going to go all out for the wedding why not do the same for the big 'null and void X marks the spot of another failed statistic in the love battlefield' ceremony? And come July I will be attending my very first one...hmm what does one wear? Is black too depressing? Is hot pink too much colour? Decisions. Decisions.
So, not only was I invited to Le Divorce Party but I was asked to fill up my iPod and bring with me the soundtrack to this celebration of disunion. So I had a couple of ideas of my own but when I put the word out for suggestions via Twitter and Facebook, the songs ideas came flooding in. All this leaves me to think that there is a market for this...think about: Connie B presents 'Sounds of Le Divorce Party' Volumes 1-12. Just saying....
So here is the song selection so far...if you have any others you think would work, comment away...
Divorce Song - Liz Phair
Have A Nice Rest Of Your Life - Randy Travis
Here's A Quarter (Call Someone Who Cares) - Travis Tritt
You Can Have Him - Holly Dunn

Good Riddance - Green Day

Hit Me With Your Best Shot - Pat Benetar
Irreplaceable - Beyonce
Crazy Bitch - Buckcherry
Because what doesn't kill only makes you stronger right? And I can't wait for the official divorce cake...oh yes, they really do exist...
Oh and the big question that most people came back to me with was concerning what the couple was doing with the wedding gifts. So I asked. They are donating their wedding gifts to a charity that helps out newly immigrated families with needed household items and appliances. So a silver lining in the disunion after all.
