A website provides information or a service to the customers. There are tons of website hosts out there, which ask for a small fee. On the other hand, there are many services which host websites and blogs for free. But, is a free website practical?
It will depend on what kind of site you want to create. The problem with free websites is that they will not give you plenty of space for adding hundreds of videos and information. Websites that are used for video games, videos and online applications, are mostly paid for. But, there are some cases in which free website is practical and will end up making you a lot more money.
A free website is practical for making an online blog, text based information site, and a small business wepage. In these cases, a paid website is actually impractical and will take lots of time. If you don't have any knowledge about computer programming, then free website hosting is the way to go.
Most free website services realize that most of their customers are not experienced with programming. That is why they add tons of features for helping users to make money and create an effective webpage at the same time. Blogspot, Wordpress, and freewebs are some of the examples of free website/blog hosting services.
If you want to create a blog about your life, or regular activities, then free blog service is the best possible solution. The free blog service will also allow you to advertise your blog on their advertising page, and other places. In this case, a free website is absolutely practical. You can easily get traffic to your blog, and most people don't care if your blog is hosted for free or not.
If you are a small business, looking for a webpage to make it easier for your customers, then free website can be practical. For example, if you own a restaurant, then you can make a webpage with your menus, locations and timings. Most free websites are capable of doing this. If your business is local, then people won't care if the site is hosted for free or not. In most cases, small business wepages hosted by a free service is definitely practical.
Text based information site for online users, can also be made for free. For example, if you want to tell people on how to maintain their health, then you can simply choose a free service and start writing. If your free service is not able to handle the size, then you can transfer to a paid service. But it is absolutely practical to start up with a free service for a text based information site.
In conclusion, whether a free hosting service is practical for your business or not, depends on the type of website you want to create. If you are going to sell products online or provide a service online, then people prefer that a paid company hosts your site. But in some cases (the ones stated above), a free website is the only practical solution. Save your money, and host your site for free! You will not lose out on too many features.
