Poetry: Marriage

Marital Bliss

Preaching quietly to the Sun in the room,

We became quite aware of the jealousy of the Moon

Who, it seemed, could not bear to be outshone

And so waited until the Sun was gone

Until appearing after-hours, as if to say

I'll shine by night, and you by day

An unanswerable challenge would then begin

Which the Moon could never hope to win

As the Sun, by far, gives the brightest light

And so the Moon is banished to night

But this exile is not as dire as it seems

For the Moon watches over the hours of our dreams

With her company, the many chattering stars,

Comets, meteors, fiery Mars

Unlike the Sun, whose majestic reign

Is starting to look as though it's all in vain

For all he knows are silent clouds, who drift

Back and forth across the rise-set rift

That separates this Sun and that Moon

Until the time when both may bloom.
