I am a non smoker. I am in favor of banning smoking altogether. I do not see any benefit in smoking whatsoever. I have spent considerable time in trying to come up with any worthwhile reason why someone would want to smoke. After putting a lot of thought to it and after considering the view points of some people I was able to come up with the below understanding that smoking in hospitals should not be allowed at any cost. Let us see why.
A person who smokes is putting his/her own life in danger while putting the life of people around him/her in danger as well. Let us try to understand what happens when someone smokes. Lets say I take a piece of paper and put some tobacco, mix some really deadly chemicals in it, add some saltpetre to it, roll it, light a fire at one end and inhale the toxic fumes while all the time blowing the same toxic smoke at other people around me. I cannot see any advantage in it. Neither can I understand how someone can find pleasure in such an activity. I am yet to figure out any advantage to the person who is smoking and to the people around him/her.
Now let us understand what hospitals are meant for. Hospitals are places you go to when you are not well, or when a woman is going to have a baby. They are places where people are operated upon. A place where people, young and old, men and women, get treated for diseases. It is a place where people can recuperate in a safe environment. A place where people relax till their weary bodies are ready to go back to work again. Hospitals are supposed to be places where everybody from a new born baby to older people or people who need special care should feel safe and sound. w should not add anything that would make people feel weary and miserable instead.
Now let us put smoking and hospitals together. What do you get? The words disaster and blasphemy come up to my mind. To make it easy for all of us to understand lets ask ourselves one simple question. Should we have a place for the devil in heaven? What would happen if we put them right next to the beautiful virgins? No points for guessing that I suppose.
Yes, you guessed it right, it is downright frightening how someone in their sane mind can make such a suggestion. Cigarettes are a source of disease and should be listed as a substance which should be banned in a hospital. In fact there should be a law that says No Smoking within 3 miles of a hospital, just like we have laws that say 'No Honking' near a hospital.
