MySpace is a highly effective tool for non-profit organizations. I can't think of a reason why it isn't. First and foremost, MySpace is free! Non-profit organizations know all about budgeting and using a free service like MySpace plays no affect on an organizations budget. This is the most common upside of why MySpace is an effective tool for non-profits, but let's discuss what a non-profit needs. Yes a non-profit organization provides services, needs, etc., but they also have needs too; needs for survival. What can MySpace offer a non-profit?
MySpace is one of the world's largest social networks. In that one sentence alone, I provided three reasons why MySpace is an effective tool. By being one of the world's largest social networks, MySpace can help a non-profit reach a large audience of numerous different people. MySpace is a social network. A non-profit organization can easily spread their mission and vision across this large audience.
MySpace consist of various different features. For starters, I will begin with advertising. Advertising is very important when it comes to non-profit organizations. Not only can you advertise within your MySpace Profile/Page, with a fee you can advertise throughout the website itself. Even though you pay to advertise throughout the site, it's worthed. Imagine millions of people seeing your companies ad and that is exactly what will happen.
Non-profit organizations aren't about the flashy logo or the looks, but nevertheless it helps! MySpace allows it's users to design their page to their liking. Having an eye catching appearance will ultimately bring an organization feedback. MySpace makes the task of designing your page easy, you don't have to be a web designer!
The features you can control on MySpace are just about endless. Non-profits host events, fundraisers, etc., MySpace allows you to share the details of this information. In fact you can share anything and everything on MySpace. A non-profit might want to market a certain audience, find sponsors, find other non-profits, etc., MySpace even allows you to search within the website to find these sources. You have a status you can constantly update to let your audience know what's going on. You have a blog area, a bulletin area and the list goes on. It's all about how your organization wants to use these features.
If MySpace wasn't an effective tool, how come so many non-profits began on MySpace, grow on MySpace and survive on MySpace? To put the icing on the cake, MySpace features the MySpace Impact Awards. The MySpace Impact Awards are dedicated to people and organizations such as non-profits who are making an impact. For every winner the MySpace Impact Awards rewards the winner with a prize of $10,000! Some non-profits such as Skate 4 Cancer have won this award. The features, the apps, the audience and the potential that MySpace contains can only help a non-profit organization succeed! Allow MySpace to be your organization's hammer and you will open up doors you never thought you would.
