Poetry: Capitalism

Created on: May 22, 2009

*Makeshift*

Vehicles roam the belt highway

Filled with mechanical people

Hurrying, scurrying

To find the rest of their day

About the business of doing business

We'll exchange the programmed conversation

The rigid routine of obligation

These are the mechanics of professionalism

We'll replace quality with quotas,

Experience with efficiency,

Spontaneity with structure,

Intimacy with isolation,

Passion with performance,

Our past becomes irrelevant

Out present is obsolete

Looking forward to the future

With new enhanced features

An obsession with saving time

To be our best efficient selves

Anxiety-driven hearts

Quicken our paces

Because the swift only win the race

To upgrade our status

Success must be speedy

Let's hustle to network our way to the top

In place of merit-driven methods

Let's rush through reality

Believing time is money

Money is power

Power is Immortality

In time we'll discover

Our well-oiled bones have stiffened

Saved time has been spent

On a mechanical exsistence

What will we replace with living?
