Do you eat junk food constantly, but never seem to gain a pound? Does your BMI tell you that you are healthy? The term for this is called skinny fat; it is not a technical term, but it means just what it says. You are skinny, but internally fat.
People who are skinny fat are born with a very high metabolism which burns energy at a rapid rate. This means you can constantly eat junk food such as pizza, crisps, chocolate all day and not gain any weight! You also do not need to exercise. You are probably thinking, wow, I wish I was skinny fat! Being skinny fat is not necessarily a good thing, it means that you start neglecting your body and thus actually become invisibly overweight over a long period of time, this means you will have a hard time solving the situation.
Skinny or fat; everybody needs to exercise and eat healthily. The benefits of exercising will show in the long run:
- your body will be toned
- prevents and controls diabetes
- reduces risk of getting heart disease
- reduces the risk of depression
- controls weight
- makes the digestion process quicker
- increases self confidence
- obesity
- reduces cholesterol levels
Exercising helps us to stay healthy and live the longest and healthiest possible life along with a healthy diet. Many think that a healthy diet means eating foods that are not necessarily healthy for you, this is wrong. It means eating a balanced diet which contains all the food groups, which means in moderation.
Eating unhealthily can cause:
- fat build up on organs
- diabetes
- obesity
- kidney malfunction
- indigestion problems
So would it be better if there was not such a thing as skinny fat. We would all try and keep healthy, in order to have that slim, perfect body that the society's media conveys.
However even though there are dangers of being fat, there are many dangers of being thin such as:
- hair loss
- anaemia
- heart disease
- weak immune system
- less chance of pregnancy
Skinny fat people may look good on the outside, but if they do not watch out for what they eat and how much exercise they do they can have a slow, long build up and not be aware of this. The lesson out of all of this is to exercise so you can maintain a healthy weight and make sure that you significantly lower the risk of the build up of fat on your vital organs. You will also have to eat in moderation and be aware of what you eat, as physically you will not see the effects. This does not mean become obsessive but to take care. It also isn't healthy to start eating less and exercising more as this is extremely unhealthy as well. As always balance between everything is key.
