Social networks are online communities composed of many internet users from almost any country in the world and created to enable its members to communicate while they can also share their interests among themselves. Some of the services offered by social networking websites are to send email and instant messaging, and also writing text in the form of a blog. Nowadays such websites have become more widely known and used daily by millions of internet users. Some of the most well known and most popular social networks are:

Facebook is perhaps the most successful social network on the internet today and includes more than 200 million registered members from around the world. Registration is free and can be done within a few minutes. Once approved, members can use it to exchange instant messages directly with other members of Facebook, invite or make new friends, post texts, links, photos, videos, and more with easy, fast, and fun way. Also provides many other free applications which are expected to amuse.

Myspace is also one of the most famous social networks on the internet today. The number of registered members exceeds 200 million and is widely known throughout the world. Registration is free and members can create and customize personal profiles, write their own blog, listen to favorite music, create groups, post links, photos and video. It also has many other free applications that can be used very ease and will make your stay even more enjoyable.

Twitter is the most direct and quickest way of communicating online with other members of the same community, without requiring the creation of profile with extensive features like most of the social networks offer. It is a social network and micro-blogging service and allows members to send and receive short messages, known as tweets. Such messages could be anything from a word to a long phrase which can include a link to another website but the total length of the message can not be bigger than 140 letters. Twitter is widely used by millions of users from around the world, known as Twittertholics.

LinkedIn is another popular social network also widely used. The difference with the social networks which mentioned above is that are aimed at professionals and businesses that have the opportunity to promote except themselves their business too through a web community with tens of millions of members. This can be achieved either through the creation of profiles, or to call friends, or by creating groups. Something that characterizes LinkedIn as a service is the participation of its members in public debates.

These are some of the most famous social networks that are widely used from users from around the world. Other social networks such as Bebo, Hi5, and Tagged used by European internet users. While social networks like Orkut, Friendster, and Multiply used mostly by the countries of the East. In general, there are currently hundreds of social networks on the internet and the services that each one is offering is different either in style, design or in use.
