Top 10 must-have baby products

One look at the baby aisle in the store, and you instantly feel overwhelmed. One little person couldn't possibly need all of this stuff! The endless array of baby products can leave you feeling confused. During these economic times, less is definitely better. Here is a list of the top 10 must-have baby products that may make your shopping a little easier!

1. Car Seat - (Can't leave the hospital without it!) This is one of the single most important things that you will need to buy for your baby. Do some comparison shopping and pricing, check out some reviews on which of the models are considered safest. I personally like the infant carrier/car seat combo that snaps into the base of the car. You can also purchase the traveler systems which come with the car seat/carrier and the stroller. The car seat/carrier snaps conveniently into both the base in the car and the stroller. The only con to these seats is the weight limit. Once babies reach a certain weight, usually 25 lbs., they must have a car seat suitable for 25 lbs. and up. You can skip this altogether, and opt for a convertible car seat that accommodates both the infants and toddlers, and you could keep the same seat from birth to around 4 years of age.

2. Diapers/Wipes- Your new little one will go through approximately 6-10 diapers per day! There are several different brands, some more expensive than other. I use LUVS. They are pretty absorbent, and less expensive than Huggies or Pampers. Of course, most stores have their own generic brand which will serve the same purpose. Be careful of sensitive skin. Some babies tolerate other brands better than others. Wipes go hand in hand with diapering. I recommend using the unscented for sensitive newborn skin.

3. Onesies- For the first few weeks of life, your baby will be wearing nothing but underwear. You will be trapped inside for awhile and will need something that is okay to handle leaky diapers, spit up. You will need at least 5-10 onesies, and it is a good idea to have 5-10 pajamas with feet, as well.

4. Bottles/Nipples/Bottle Brush- A definite necessity if you are formula feeding. You will need about 4 of the 4 oz. bottles, and for later at least 4 of the 8 oz. bottles. Playtex is a good brand, the bags are convenient, no bottle cleaning. They can be expensive. Shop around, you may find that once your baby is here, you switch to a brand that works better for your infant. Some bottles can produce more air, and some babies prefer different nipple styles.
