Spring on Hawaii's Big Island is absolutely beautiful. Most people think of destinations in Hawaii they think of Maui or Oahu. However you should consider Hawaii's Big Island as a must see destination.
There are many things to do so make sure you plan plenty of time. Be sure that you plan on renting a car. Hawaii's Big Island is large and very diverse from one side to the other. To get the full experience you need to be able to get around at your leisure. On the one side of the island is beautiful green trees and waterfalls where the other side is lots of lava rock. The weather is really nice. However it does cool off in the evenings so be sure to bring a jacket.
Most of the resorts are near Kona on the sunny side of the Island. This is because it hardly ever rains there. This is great for going to the beach and enjoying the sea, sand and sun. While you are there you need to make sure that you go snorkeling. The best part is all of the giant sea turtles. They are everywhere. Remember that they are protected so you are not allowed to touch them, but it's really cool to swim so close to them. Make sure that you have a good underwater camera. You'll want to remember all those great fish. A great place to snorkel is a place called "Two Step." It's a lava rock beach that has two steps to get into a pool like reef. The fish are so vibrant and beautiful. You can find it right outside of Kona.
You will also want to make sure you visit the other side of the Island. There are many beautiful waterfalls as well as botanical gardens. One of the gardens starts out up in the mountains ends up down at the ocean. One thing to keep in mind is the flowers start to bloom later in the season you won't see as many in early spring, but it's still beautiful. Be sure to bring good shoes and plan on lots of hiking to see all the waterfalls and gardens.
One last thing you have to check out is the volcanoes. Hawaii's Big Island is the only one with an active volcano. You can check out the Volcano National park as well as go to see the lava flow. The best time to see it is at night because you can see it glowing. Most times the viewing area is pretty far from the actual flow. If you want to see it up close they said the best way is a boat ride. Either way it's a must see. Be sure to where good hiking shoes and bring a flashlight. You are walking on lava rock and it's very bumpy.
Hawaii's Big Island is very magical. It's not very populated so you can enjoy a very relaxed atmosphere. There are so many beautiful things to see and do. One last thing to remember, they go to bed early and get up early. Most tours start early and there is nothing open late so plan accordingly. There is lots of information on-line about tours and activities available on the island. You will want to do some research before you go and book some fun actives, but plan on plenty of time to relax and enjoy this beautiful Island.
