To reach the break even price for a barrel of oil, that price must reach at least $50 per barrel. The current price of crude oil is $61.44 as of May 20, 2009. Oil industry experts have determined that the $50 price is a break even point for oil company profits.
Opec is projecting that the demand for oil world wide is expected to be down for next year. The main reason for the lack of demand is the world wide economic slow down. Opec has cut production recently to adjust for the lack of demand. However, the oil prices have still come down significantly since last summers high prices.
The retail gas prices are down from the prior summers high by some 40% according to AAA auto driving club. Due to a combination of summer driving and a cut back in the oil refinering gas prices have recently increased by 13%. Economist believe that the US economy is schedule to show a recovery by 4thquarter 2009. That recovery will increase the demand for crude usage.
The American Petroleum institute was expecting an oil per barrel inventory of 370.7 million barrels in the US inventory. The oil analyst were expecting a gain of 1.4 million barrels. There was a loss of 3.13 million barrels. The expected July benchmark delivery of oil is $60.80.
