Many people would say that the case against Governor Spitzer was over blown. However, he behaved, in my opinion, as a brazen hussy lacking even in the lowest form of common sense in acting out his, obviously, uncontrollable mental health issues. He occupied a position as a governor of a state. He was not just some kind of businessman paying to cheat on his wife. He was not a federal agent paying prostitutes to garner information on mobsters. He was a governor of a state, for God's sake. And, may my Catholic friends forgive me for taking Gods name in vain. And, that lame introduction is my point on the Spitzer scandal, vanity.
As the preacher would say in Eccelisiastes, vanity of vanities, all is vanity. And, Spitzer you were guilty of the grossest form of vanity and clear lack of judgement. If you showed such poor judgement in handling your personal desires, who is it to say that your judgement in state matters would not be as equally poor.
I, for one, would be in line to ridicule agents charging Governor Spitzer for prostitution especially in light of their manipulation of prostitutes which they claim they need to do to investigate; however, being caught with a prostitute and paying her by check is really vain. You Governor were acting as if you were above the same law that we poor mortals are forced to obey. But, your vanity was based in total measure on your position as a Governor. And, you were judged as showing indescribable poor judgement in carrying out the duties of your office by letting yourself wide open to the whims of a paid sexual object. You might say that you never told your prostitute any of the State's business. How are we to know and why should we care what you told a prostitute. You undermined the duties of your office and caused a possible risk in national security because of your behavior.
The humiliation that your family had to endure would have been nothing at all if you had been federally charged as well as being stripped of your vain acting out behaviors. From what I understand about human behavior, such behavior was probably of long duration. However, you should a lack of judgement in not changing your behavior for the good of your office and to lessen the possibility of your being blackmailed by someone who might know of your special needs.
Let us not forget that public officials can be blackmailed, and they are usually blackmailed for behaviors that would destroy their public careers if caught.
