Gardening-An all around approach to good health
As humans not only do we have to eat to stay alive, we enjoy eating. A big part of the problem in children as well as adults is that some of us enjoy it too much. It's plastered all over the newspapers and the television, about how children, young Americans and also adults consumption of fast food is the major cause of serious health problems. Studies show that in youngsters and younger adults, not enough sports and outside activities seems to be a very big part of this issue if not number one. Here's a way for us all to get out and enjoy the weather, stretch and get some exercise, and really enjoy and have some appreciation for what we eat, while we're eating it.
There's nothing like the satisfaction of watching your own vegetables and fruits grow in a garden that's been dug by your own hands. And no, it doesn't have to be all that much work. It depends really on what you want to grow. And like many other aspects of life, how much you put into your garden, is how much you'll get out of it. One issue that many have in regards to planting their own garden is where they live, and they also think that weather is not an issue, but weather is really not an issue. As long as you have room for a pot, whether it is indoors or outdoors, that can get some sun and you can water it, then you can have fresh vegetables at the least. The spring and summer months are warm just about everywhere, so it's a matter of what it is that one can grow depending on the area of the country that you live in.
Most people who have never had a garden usually start out with tomatoes, which is an excellent start. Tomatoes are not only easy to grow, but one tomato plant yields quite a bit of tomatoes, and you don't need a lot of room. There are many different varieties from large tomatoes to small cherry size tomatoes, they are very nutritious and can be canned so that you can have that fresh garden taste all year around.
Some other vegetables that don't require a lot of room are easy to grow and have good yields are carrots, peppers (bell, banana, and hot), squash, lettuce, and spinach. And don't forget fresh herbs. These can even be set in small pots that can sit in a window in the kitchen.
It's guaranteed that once you successfully grow a few vegetables on your own, whether just a starter vegetable garden, or even just a few herb plants it will be very hard not to plant again year after year. What with the rising cost of food prices also, it's better to grow your own.
