Who can forget Jack Skellington (The Pumpkin King)? Or what about the deformed ghosts, goblins, monsters and witches? All of these characters are found in Disney's The Nightmare Before Christmas and hands down, this is the best 3D film Disney has made thus far. It is an exciting film with silly characters that give children lots of laughs and lots of fun.
The plot of the story is pretty complex. A king decides he is tired of what he always does and tries to make a huge change. He goes through a lot of situations only to find out that he should've been happy with they way things were. The story is based on Halloween Town which is filled with goblins, ghosts, witches, monsters, and vampires. Jack Skellington becomes tired of celebrating Halloween each year and decides to become involved in Christmas after stumbling across "Christmastown." Jack tries to bring this concept back to his town, but no one quite grasps the idea of Christmas. Halloween is what they do best! Jack Skellington decides to try to take over as Santa Claus and kidnaps Santa as a result. Jack Skellington begins having trouble's with the town's boogeyman, Oogie Boogie, once Lock, Shock, and Barrel (Skellington's trio of friends) deliver the kidnapped Santa to him. Christmas Eve arrives and Jack Skellington begins to deliver some strange gifts to the children from his skeletal driven sleigh. Sally (a rag doll who is in love with Jack) attempts to stop the madness but is captured by Oogie as well. Jack ends up saving Sally and Santa. Santa makes it snow all over Halloween Town and Jack announces he is romantic about Sally as well. In the end, things go back to they way they were and probably should have stayed.
Children love this film because it is funny, creepy, silly, and colorful. The voices are done by a cast of excellent performers such as Catherine O'Hara, William Hickey, Ken Page, and Chris Sarandon. It is a remake and quite different version of the original Nightmare Before Christmas. 'There are quite a few catchy tunes in the film and there is a story to be learned. The film is exciting and different. When my son and I went to the movies to see it, the seats were filled and the children screamed with excitement throughout the movie. The 3D version made the film seem as if it was real and the characters seemed to jump out of the screen. Disney has a winner with The Nightmare Before Christmas.
