its normal appearance when it has been disturbed. The Teddy Satin has this same dense coat with the extra touch of that satin sheen.
Texel
The Texel is an import from England that is highly recognizable for its curls which are long and tight. This breed is unlike the others as it has a short, compact body rather than a medium-length build. This breed is noted to be the most time consuming of all breeds due to the extra time required for grooming.
White Crested
A short-haired cavy, the White Crested has a unique white crest on the top of its head. For show, this breed can have no other white spots on its body. The coat is smooth and can be found in a variety of colors. Those animals with the distinctive rosette on the head and no other white markings are preferred.
While these 13 are the only breeds recognized for show, there are several other breeds available. These include the Merino, the English self crested, and the Alpaca. Breeds in development include the Lunkara, Silver Marten, and the Swiss Teddy. The Baldwin and the Skinny Pig are hairless breeds although the Skinny Pig does tend to have patches of hair on certain portions of the body. Each of the mentioned breeds comes in a variety of colors and patterns. If you are choosing a breed for show, you should familiarize yourself with the breed standards set by the Cavy Breeders Association and ARBA.
