The internet keeps us from being bored. We do work, socialize, mail, shop and bank through the internet. Unfortunately, the internet is not fail safe. Things happen at times and the internet connection goes out the window. Many of us will get our feathers in a ruffle when this happens. After all, that is where so much of our lives happens.
There are ways around it when the internet goes down. Here are some things that you can do when you find yourself without this trusted friend:
Do Things Manually
I know that sounds so mundane. Actually going to the bank to do your banking or to a store for shopping. Inconvenient as that may sound, sometimes you should do it anyway. We have become far too dependent on our computers for everything in the world. We have a difficult time remembering that everything used to get done and without the use of a computer. Doing things manually might even give you a better appreciation of the technology that we are blessed with.
Hang Out With the Family
It's probably been so long since you have left the computer off for a full day that you won't know what to do with your family during down times. Go on a road trip or play a board game. An even more novel idea is to have a discussion with them. You will be amazed at how much you can learn about your family that way.
Read
There are these things called books. The written word isn't as out of style as you think. Reading on the internet can't hold a candle to reading a book. Curl up on the sofa and let your imagination go wild. Get lost in that book that you have been meaning to read. You probably didn't have time to when you were surfing the net. Now is the time to rediscover your love for reading.
Take a Walk
Get out and enjoy the nice weather. You will feel better and it will be just enough to take your mind off of the fact that you don't have an internet connection. The fresh air will do you some good. You have been cooped up far too long in the house doing all of your computing. You may even find that you like it so much that you make a regular habit out of it.
There are many things that you can do when your internet connection goes down. You don't have to sit in front of the screen yelling at it as though it is listening. It will come on much faster if you get away from it for a while and do something to keep your mind occupied. Get out and get busy. It will do you and your heart good.
