How to choose habits to help you stay young and healthy

For centuries we have been trying to discover the fountain of youth. One cannot escape the many ads that bombard our television screens and the great number of books written in regard to youth and health. Thus, billions of dollars have been derived from this genre. Everyone wishes there was a magic bullet one could administer in order to retain youth and good health. However, there is no easy way around it. It is vital that we try to choose habits to help us stay young and healthy. Some of the habits one can incorporate in one's life are as follows:

BALANCED DIET
It is important to include a balanced diet in our everyday lifestyle. Skipping breakfast is not a good idea as this can cause one to overeat later in the day. It is wise to have a filling meal consisting of fruits, whole grains and protein. A healthy snack like nuts in between meals will assist with keeping blood sugar in check. Lunch and dinner should include a lean protein like chicken, pork, turkey or fish, some complex carbohydrates like brown rice or potatoes, a green salad, and other vegetables. It is adviseable to eliminate sodas and sweet drinks which include high frutose syrup. Instead, substitute these drinks with water throughout the day. Portion control is necessary so as to avoid unwanted calories.

EXERCISE
Physical activities are key to keeping our metabolism up. One does not have to own a membership in a gym. A daily walk around the block for at least 30 minutes will keep the mind and body fit. Whatever works for each person is just enough. A session of dancing or yoga/meditation will also provide mental well being and agility.

SLEEP
We often time take sleep for granted. Survey have revealed that sleep deprivation has become an epidemic all over the world. It is detrimental for good health that we aim for eight hours of sleep each night. One way to avoid the lack of sufficient shut-eye is to remove the television from the bedroom and create a dark and cool atmosphere.

SUPPORT OF FAMILY/FRIENDS
Now-a-days, we are stressed in both work and private lives. It is a godsend when one has close friends and family to give emotional support when the going gets tough. They can keep you grounded and allow you to be your true self.

MASSAGES

Research has found that regular body massages from a licensed therapist will assist in aleviating aches and pains. Moreover, they will provide blood flow to the entire body as well as an upliftment of the spirits. If there is a cost factor in having regular ones performed by the professional, you can have a loved-one do same, but, warning should be taken that pressure points are avoided.

These are just some of the ways one can have control over their health and well being. With discipline, these habits will become second nature.
