Velvet Chains
Sitting on a park bench,
On a beautiful spring day,
Two old friends were reminiscing,
Of times long gone away.
"She passed about twenty years ago?"
One questioned the other.
"Yes, That's about right, he answered."
"And you've never found another?"
"I really haven't looked too hard."
"Why not?" asked his friend,
"Do you never get a bit lonely-
"Wish this single life to end?"
"Oh, I've had a couple of chances
"To get married once again,
"But could never bring myself to it
"Because of the Velvet Chain."
"Velvet chain? What do you mean?"
"Oh, nothing, just let it go."
"But now you have me wondering,
"I really would like to know."
"Well, if you really feel you must,
"I will tell it to you briefly.
"The Velvet Chain That I speak of
"Was forged of our love, chiefly."
"You see, when we took our marriage vows,
"To love, honor, protect, and obey,
"The bond between us was so strong,
"That a Velvet Chain was made that day."
"It's not a chain of weighty oppression,
"Or something to be physically bound by,
"But it's real enough that death could not break it
"Nor have I ever wanted to try."
"But, surely it is only an imaginary thing,
"Which you have described to me.
"Only something in your mind,
"That binds you to an old memory."
"What you say may possibly be true,"
He said, as he got up to leave,
"But I will remain true to her and self,
"Though I long ago ceased to grieve."
"True love is strong, I'm still loyal to her,
"Though some people might not understand,
"Until my death I will not break it;
"The Velvet Chain: our invisible wedding band.

For anyone who cares, I am not okay
I never thought I could ever end up this way
I've cried and I've lied, fought so long
Sad beyond compare
I have no life to share
I walk this lonely road
Carrying a heavy load
Feeling all depress
I live

Remove the pain of the Past,
Help him find victory that
