Rush Limbaugh: Does he represent the Republican party?

What does Rush really want? What is he really after? He laid the ground rules early with his adamant assertion that he wants Obama to fail. He has never backed off that claim despite the media attention that it received. We all realize that if Obama fails it means we as a country have failed, our system has failed and our government has failed. There was no real conjecture as to what that would actually mean, the consequences are too dire to wrap around one's brain.

Now, the media cycle has moved on and no one mentions that any more, it is old news. Mr. Limbaugh's current tactic is to convince anyone who will listen that Obama is leading us to becoming a socialistic state. Obviously, many believe this. Not only do they believe it because of Rush's incessant hammering the message about Obama, but because that's the message any time any social program is proposed, whether it was health care reform by Hillary Clinton or the extension of the SCHIP program during the Bush Jr. administration. But, this time the message is meaner, more aggressive, and pointing directly at Obama.

His message is clear. Obama must go, but is he thinking go as in the election of 2012? Could he really be campaigning this far in advance? Somehow I doubt it. Or is he calculating that with enough dissatisfaction with Obama would result in a turn-around in congress in 2010? That's possible, I suppose, but again I doubt it. If that were the case, he would do better to focus his message more towards particular members of congress. One thing is clear, Limbaugh is an intelligent man and if he were indeed trying to turn the balance in congress he wouldn't be wasting his time on Obama. So, again, what exactly does he want?

Oh yeah, Rush is an entertainer, he's only after ratings. That's true, and he is certainly getting the ratings. Moreover, he's an established figure in conservative talk radio, he has his millions of dollars and his ratings so why should he so directly attack our commander-in-chief? What does he want?

The message that Rush is preaching is directly from Ayn Rand, that the producers who create all the wealth are being looted by taxes for social programs that only benefit those who produce nothing. It's no secret that Limbaugh is a huge fan of Ms. Rand's political theories, and it's also no secret that we have some huge social problems in our country that will not be solved by anything Obama could do during four or eight years in office. We have a built-in percentage
