Whenever I try to write one of these favorite video game lists I always end up sticking half the games I've ever played on it. I have trouble being decisive with my favorites, and abhor leaving good games out.
So, to prevent that from happening, I'm going to pick my favorite game from each system I've owned and go from there. And rest assured, even though I say a game is my favorite today, chances are good it'll have changed if you ask me again tomorrow.
NES: Super Mario Bros. 2 - Yes, I enjoy the weird sequel to numbers one and three. There's something about Luigi's flailing feet as he soars through the air that tickles my funny bone. Besides, this game had some of the best Mario villains to date, including the woefully underused Wart. I REALLY want him to make a comeback in a game, even if only as a side boss.
Gameboy: Metroid 2 - This title was so good it beats out even Pokemon for pure fun. Hunting down those ever growing metroid evolutions was great fun - but nothing in the game could beat the final boss, the metroid queen, a gigantic freakish creature that hasn't quite been matched in recent Metroid games for pure horrific coolness.
Sega Genesis: Sonic and Knuckles - Never a big Sega fan, but I have to give them kudos for the Sonic games. It's too fun zipping through huge loops as a blue blur. What put this game ahead, however, was the inexplicably airborne echidna Knuckles. Any game that has gliding is a good game.
SNES: Final Fantasy III (or VI, for you purists) - Man, the SNES was a tough choice, but I have to give it to FFVI. It had such an awesomely balanced story - despite having an ENORMOUS playable cast - bolstered by great visuals and music that it gets the prize. Kefka for the win!
N64: Goldeneye 007 - Anybody who's run around the Facility with a rocket launcher knows why I chose Goldeneye. 'nough said.
GBA: Pokemon LeafGreen - Another tough system to choose for, but I have to go with LeafGreen based solely on how many hours I put into the game. Which is, needless to say, a frightening amount. (What? It's easy to play when you're watching TV. Leave me alone.)
DS: Disgaea DS - I had to put in a Disgaea game somewhere on the list, and since it's tougher to justify the PS2 titles this will go nicely here. I've always loved the original Disgaea, but I HATED that you couldn't skip the battle sequences. Disgaea DS eliminated that detriment and, thus, stole my heart.
Gamecube: Super Smash Bros. Melee - Smash Bros. for N64 was fun, but the
