Is the Helium rating system really fair

Helium's rating system has been the topic for great debate within its forums. There are those that hate it, those that don't like certain aspects of it and those that think it is fine just the way it is. There are many benefits to having this rating system in place though. One of the benefits is higher earnings for the writer.

Without the rating system that Helium has in place, each article would have to be edited by a staff of people that are paid to do it. Then it would have to be decided if that article has what it takes to receive payment for it. That is how it works in all other sites. Not to mention the fact that those articles can sit around for weeks before being reviewed. That means that you lose precious time and click money.

Is the Helium rating system fair? In some aspects, it may seem as though the answer to that question is no. If you peel all the layers, you may feel differently about it in the big picture. Here are some ways in which the rating system is fair:

Peer Decisions

The rating system is basically how your peers feel your work "rates" against others within the same title. We may not like the outcome sometimes, but if you really look at everything, you will see that the works which ranks above yours are indeed good work. We don't like to admit that someone else can write better than us. In fact, we often see our work as far superior to that of the work that ranks higher than ours. In many instances, this is the case. Although the rating system doesn't always work as it should, it does work as a whole. It gives us a chance to correct our errors as well. If it is ranked low, we know that we need to change something. Enter leapfrog.

Immediate Publishing

This was discussed in the first paragraph but it needs to be reiterated. Without ratings, we could not publish our work immediately. This is what brought us to the site to begin with. We don't have to jump through hoops in order for our voices to be heard. Those others sites are very discouraging at times. Helium offers the best way to earn money and to do it without having to wait for weeks for an answer. This brings up your earnings as well.

No Paid Staff

The rating system means that Helium doesn't have to keep staff on the payroll. This is yet another helpful venue for writers. The less Helium has to pay in staff, the more money it can pay its writers. It's a win-win situation.

Provides Excellent Feedback

The rating system itself is great feedback from other writers. Not only does your ranking provide this, you can often get feedback from writers when they make contact with you. There may have been something you missed that someone else picks up and this can provide great insight as to why an article isn't ranking as highly as you think it should be.

Helium's rating system might not always work out perfectly. It can leave a writer frustrated at times. However, with the other options available, most of us prefer this system to the other sites that offer far less to their members. Helium's rating system is as fair as it can get. Nothing is perfect but this site come pretty darn close.
